Soroptimist International of Chico

And our final nonprofit winner of 2023 is... Soroptimist International of Chico! We were thrilled to award our donations to the local Chico chapter of Soroptimist International to fund their project to provide more comprehensive cervical cancer screenings to underserved women in our community. With our donations they’ll be able to fund nine extra cervical cancer clinics in Chico to provide a total of 460 screenings for our fellow Chico residents who otherwise would not be able to afford this potentially life-saving test! We can’t wait to hear the update next year!

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. They plan to use the funds from our group to purchase a utility trailer and a storage shed to secure tools and building supplies to help streamline their processes to be able to build more homes for local families in need.

Our May 2023 Meeting Winner:

AAWU TECH Trek STEM Camp for Girls

Ability First Sports is our February 2023 Winner. They are a wheelchair sports program designed to provide sports and recreation opportunities to youth and adults with physical disabilities. They plan to use the funds from Power of 100 Women to repair and upgrade their current equipment and to purchase new archery equipment.

Our November 2022 Winner is Home & Heart. A home sharing affordable housing solution that benefits renters and homeowners in Butte County. They plan to use the funds for a variety of client services including moving, necessary improvements for aging in place, case work and outreach programs.

Peg Taylor provides Adult Day Health Care & Community Based Adult Services offering life-saving daily health care and support to help families caring for loved ones with serious health conditions. They plan to use the funds to replace their 30+ year-old Air-Conditioning system and replace the ducting. This will allow them to reopen in October to in-person activities providing preventive health care, rehabilitation, and independence.

We have currently raised $16,050 with a matching gift of $5000 from the Schultz Foundation. Thanks so much for your continued support of this wonderful nonprofit.

Butte County Search and Rescue and their project to fund the purchase of equipment and provide resource training was our winner. The Butte County Search and Rescue Team is an all-volunteer, non-profit, non-tax-supported auxiliary team of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office. Their primary purpose is to provide skilled search and technical rescue services to the residents and visitors of Butte County, California. They have been integral in search, rescue and recovery after the fires in our local area.

We are excited to aid them in their endeavors and have collected $18,588 thus far and the Schultz Foundation has matched and additional $5000!! You can still donate online at https://buttesar.org. They have updated their webpage with a quick link thanking Power of 100 Women!

The donations we raise are to got to K9 Training and GPS units, 5 fire shelters, 8 practice shelters, 5 fire evacuation jackets and pants, 2 Mustang dry suits and PFDs and last but not least, 300 Backpacks with Safety Supplies for kids K-3rd grade. We will continue to update on the specifics as they come in.

We raised $15,600 for Wings of Eagles, our winner in February, a long-time Chico non-profit that provides support for families with seriously ill children. From our donations, they have helped 5 families since March with out of pocket costs to San Francisco and Sacramento and will be able to help many more families in the near future. They also were able to buy supplies and tote bags for their hospital care kits. They wanted to let us know they are super grateful to the Power of 100 Women and our generous donation!

Our final meeting of 2021 granted the most votes to Chico Housing Action Team (CHAT). Our funds will be usedin Chico to help cover the cost of infrastructure for the Everhart Village project, which will consist of 20 "tiny house" shelter units for people with mental illness who have lost their housing and have been living unsheltered. The occupants will be participating in treatment with Behavioral Health while CHAT staff works with them on life skills, problem solving, and permanent housing solutions. A fantastic project!

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) made a successful ‘ask’ for our August donation. CASA works with local foster youth, providing advocates for court and for life. They are regularly asked to provide medical needs outside what is provided as well as sports fees, equipment, prom needs - all the extras that make kids feel a part of their school and community. The day we called to tell them the money was coming their way, they had been asked for a deposit for braces. Thanks to our 100 Women group, that need will be met! We have raised $15,700 for CASA - great work!

May’s meeting provided tough choices but Reading Pals was the top vote getter in their effort to launch the program at 2-3 new school sites this year. They will provide a Volunteer Coordinator dedicated to recruiting, scheduling, training and supporting all of the 50-75 volunteers at those sites and making sure volunteers have everything they need to successfully support the students they read with. We are so happy to support their efforts! So happy that we donated $15,750 with a $5,000 match from the Schulze Foundation. Go us!

Our first meeting of 2021 successfully granted Meals on Wheels the funds needed to purchase a new delivery van. The need for meal deliveries has grown, first with the Camp Fire and now again with COVID. We are proud to help at this crucial time, and have raised $16,100 in donations. The van is on order!

Our 2nd online meeting on November 4th went beautifully and will benefit Arc and their planned remodel/retrofit of the onsite playground at Park Ave. Their Family Support Program participants can’t wait to break it in! Together, we raised $15,200 for this important project with another $5,000 coming in matching funds from the Schulze Foundation.

Our very first online meeting took place on August 5th and judging by the envelopes, it was a huge success. Our members eagerly shifted to a new format with the beneficiary being Alliance for Workforce Development and their program designed to mentor young women entering the job market. Power of 100 Women donated $14,700 and we anticipate another $5000 in matching funds going to this timely program. On top of donations, check out the generous notes of encouragement AFWD received:

Our Feb 6th donation of over $18,000 (plus an additional $5,000 match from the Schulze Foundation!) went to the Boys & Girls Club of the North Valley for their Kicks for Kids campaign. They will use our funds to purchase new shoes and socks for low income children in their Chico programs. Payless Shoes had partnered with them in the past but with their closing, the Power of 100 Women is honored to provide this essential need and keep our Chico children on the run!

With our November donation ($16,000), the Work Training Center will purchase much needed equipment for their Motor Skills Development Program within the Joe McGie Center. They will buy an Arjo Lifting System that will allow staff to safely and comfortably transfer people to and from their wheelchairs and a standing frame that is used to get people up and out of their wheelchairs.

From the Grounds Up Farms, Inc. received the most votes at our August meeting and plan to use our funds ($14,875) to install an outdoor kitchen for community cooking classes and demos as well as install proper irrigation at their main farm. Congrats!

Shalom Free Clinic took home the checks at our May 1st gathering. Shalom, a Chico medical clinic dedicated to free healthcare and other self-care services, received $14,650. They will use our funds for ADA compliance projects and exam tables.

Catalyst Domestic Violence Services was the top vote getter at our February 6th meeting. Our $14,550 donation will go towards remodeling the laundry room at the shelter with two new industrial washers and dryers, new cabinets and flooring, paint and a wall mounted ironing board. Providing a reliable and well appointed laundry room helps keep Catalyst’s safe space safe and welcoming.

At our November 7th meeting, Chico Posse Foundation was the evening’s chosen non-profit. Chico Posse “plugs the holes” to keep people from becoming homeless and helps them get back on their feet with housing, food and household items. Our donation to support them totaled $14,900.

At our August 1st meeting, Ability First Sports was chosen to receive our quarterly donation of $15,775. With the funds, they purchased adaptive PE equipment and a trailer to transport it. We are thrilled to support this incredible program.

Cast Hope was awarded $13,750 at our May 16th meeting to provide a multi-event summer program including classroom learning, stream clean up, fly tying lessons, fly fishing clinic on Deer Creek and fishing equipment for 250 children.
